Chapter 4: Assault on Ul Drakkan (cont'd)

We freed the elf in trapped in the cage, but he was of no help to us. He didn't know anything or see anything. There was some disagreement over what to do, because many of us were nearly out of spells, and continuing on could be suicide. We opened one of the many doors that led out from the chamber we were in. The first one opened onto a rampart 60 feet off the ground, away from the tower we were in and to another. There were two drow here, standing close to a large alarm bell. The party charged forward and attempted to silence the area before the drow could sound the alarm. I didn't see the point, since the drow already knew that we were there. As the others attacked, a ballista mounted on the other tower began firing. At this point, we decided that we better explore our current tower before proceeding to one of the other towers.

After some more arguing, we proceeded downstairs, and fought several more drow and spiders. We found what appeared to be the the antechamber at the ground floor, but the others were apprehensive about trying any of them for fear of traps. At this point, we moved back up, and opened some of the doors that we had left before. We found quite a few pieces of treasure, which made the effort all worth it. We then kept moving up, to what appeared to be the top floor, where previously we encountered the Mohrg and the drow spellcaster. In his room, we found a grisly sight: we found the bodies of two humanoids, both with their brains removed. Aeriana explained that it looked like a mind flayer's work. In one of the rooms on that floor, we found a treasure room with six chests. It would have been all too easy except for that fact that all of them were trapped, and one was actually a mimic that grabbed and nearly swallowed our rogue. However, we managed to kill off the mimic and disarm all the traps without too much incident, and we found a literal treasure trove of goods.
