Igbot Strikes Again
The storm was getting worse. Ignitz hovered over the grave and draped his cloak across his head to create a miniature shelter from the wind. His instructions were clear. The king had ordered all heroes from the duergar war to be honored. Either monuments erected in their name or their corpses fully resurrected with a new life provided to them.
Igbot was a special case. Ignitz never knew him but he was part of his house. Because he rested far from the gnome city, Ignitz needed to personally make the trip. Only Ignitz would know where to find his resting place - given Ignitz's new royal position in the house, this would likely be his last out-of-city mission.
Ignitz traveled all the way to the graveyard forgetting he needed to get the spell-storing gem the king had given him fully recharged. The king had provided 10000gp for him to pay a cleric to provide the necessary spell. Happily, Ignitz found a nearby druid instead that did the task for far less! This saved him many hours of travel back to find a cleric (and a few thousand gold!)
As prescribed Ignitz dug into Igbot's grave and buried a satchel full of Ignitz's old adventuring gear. He won't be needing it anymore anyway - but Igbot surely would. For also included were instructions from the king. Ignitz didn't know Igbot's mission, but he knew he wouldn't be home soon.
Once the satchel was buried, Ignitz then placed the spell-storing gem upon the grave and uttered the command word. As he told it would, the gem glimmered with the druid's magic amongst the rain and slowly sank into the ground. Knowing his mission was accomplished, Ignitz whispered "Welcome back" to his brother's grave and disappeared into the darkness.
The next morning brought the sunrise and the calm. The hot rays of the sun woke Igbot slowly. He raised his head.
"Wha? Where am I?"
Igbot caught his senses and jumped up - "Minotaur!"
He looked around. He stood alone in the middle of a green field with scattered tombstones.
"How did I get here?"
No minotaurs. No dungeons. No adventurers.
"What devilry is this?"
Igbot looked down and noticed the satchel. He opened it and found a wealth of interesting gear. He picked up a beautiful dagger.
"Hello. I'm Yaeshla" it spoke.
Igbot was startled, "A speaking dagger! Do you know why I'm here?"
"Sorry", retored yaeshla. "I don't. Last I knew Ignitz and the party sealed the banewarrens."
"The banewarrens!? sealed!? They succeeded? Did they find the necklace of glitter!?"
Yaeshla responded, "Oh yes. Thats right. We did get some necklace and went to some gnome city. They seemed awful excited about it."
Igbot searched more through the bag and found the note. He opened it quickly and read.
"We have won", he whispered to himself.
"We HAVE WON!"
Igbot kept reading. The king had given him a new mission. And starting gear to get going.
Igbot burst to his feet and quickly began to don his new armor and gear. Lastly he grabbed the boots he read had the gift of flight. He began to put them on but then stopped.
He stared down at his half-put-on boot then slowly removed the boot again.
"Why are my feet so hairy?", he muttered.
